German Buildering Vid

Thanks to Stephan for pointing out this well produced German buildering video, made for the 2008 Buildering (European and not World) World Cup.

After a month in Germany, I recognized "mit", "scheisen", and "beware of limbo dancers." I'm a regular James Bond.

Check out the HD version.

I'm a little late on this -- I was hoping that Ryan would post the video to something other than Facebook. But Robin figured out how to embed Facebook videos, so I stole the code from his blog. Enjoy.

...by Arthur Brown would be the background music for this video if I didn't want you to hear all the funny shit drunk people say. I laughed my ass off editing this vid. Thanks to Chris Luco for the footage.

UBC Buildering Nights

With working on the UBC guidebook and the weekly outings, there's been a lot of buildering happening on campus. Here's a video from a couple weeks ago. Of particular note is a route that Grant sent, Chemistry Drainpipe, which I originally described in the new guidebook as:

Chemistry Drainpipe
For legitimacy sake I've either climbed, or in the case where technical difficulty exceeds my crap climbing skills (see Belkin North Drainage), witnessed the ascent of every route in this guide.

This route is the exception.

Chemistry is the oldest permanent structure on campus. "The Barn" coffee shop is older, but was never intended to be a permanent structure and has been heavily renovated. That drainpipe was attached in 1925 and hasn't been refurbished since. I'll let you come to your own conclusion on how sturdy it is.

It's pretty much a solo until the spout. You could probably slip a sling behind the drain-pipe, but should you really be testing a pipe to hold a fall when it's questionable whether it would hold body weight?

Congrats to Grant who sent it in style. Turns out the 1968 description of "fairly firm" still holds true. Now that there's no fire escape on Chemistry this is the easiest access to the roof. Since we were up there we had to take the opportunity to climb Chemistry Cracks, which subsequently kicked our asses.

Email me if you'd like to come out as see what it's all about.

Out of Time

This is a must see. I believe it's from the Dvinsk clan, the same group of Russians that blew our minds a few years back with their first video (untitled).

Once again, just when I thought I knew limits of parkour these guys go and smash them. The filming quality, skill level, and entertainment value of this video surpasses the realm of "internet videos" and into the realm of professionally produced skate videos. Very impressive.

PKBC Parkour Jam 2007

When I last wrote about the first annual PKBC jam, I promised to release some video footage of the event. Well over a year later here it is. One may think its release it a little delayed, but in reality I've got a 50% quicker turnaround time than the major Hollywood studios, with 0.001% of the budget. That's pretty impressive.

New Video Section

I'm been hard at work editing a whole bunch of new footage, and have added a Videos section to the main menu. Here's a teaser of things to come.

1ntensity is...

Here's an above average buildering video, from the German guys who frequently claim "first ever", "best ever", and "world championships". The way I see it, unless somebody travels more than 50km to participate, you can't call it a world championship. Good video though.

Interestingly enough, the video was submitted by 1ntensity, a BMW viral marketing campaign. Over a year ago I received an email from a BMW ad firm, wanting to create some original "extreme" footage. Looks like they got lazy and decided to steal other people's YouTube content to market their crappy car instead.

Thanks to everyone who attended. This year was as successful as ever, with lots of good climbers, new problems, and relatively low number of busts. This is my first kick at the video production can, so lemme know what you think.
