UBC Buildering Contest 8
James on Clock Tower.
Ryan on IRC/Wood Backside Corner. 7 pts.
Ten people show for this year's buildering comp. Not a bad turnout, considering it is held a full three weeks after the last day of school. As usual, I'm to blame for the tardiness. If a reader hadn't reminded me, I would've completely forgotten about it. Of course I LIVE and BREATHE buildering like everyone else, but sometimes I forget the little details when running this multinational, fortune 500, conglomerate of a website.
It is sunny and dry, after having to reschedule an earlier date due to rain. Eight problems total, which Grant informs me "are all hard". I don't know, I think everyone sends at least one problem, and it doesn't stop Grant from sending everything. Nor does it stop Tim. We spend a good portion of the night looking for a bonus tie breaker. Nothing works. The only unclimbable problem is Belkin North Drainage, which defeats both equally.
We head to the bar to celebrate and hand out prizes. After several jugs we are ready to climb again, this time some highball stuff that is too scary to do sober. My favorite photo of the night is from this drunken session, with Grant about to throw a broken antenna on James, and a sickly looking Todd in the corner. Not my finest work, but it captures the essence nicely. We climb into the wee hours of the morning, stumble upon the set of some upcoming T.V. series "Tower Prep" (it looks terrible), and then try to find our way home well after public transit has shut down.
Ryan topping out. IRC/Wood Backside Corner. 7 pts.
Steffen on the balancey(?) IRC/Wood Backside Corner, which everyone simply dyno'd to the top. 8 pts.
The crew.
Sarah with an owie.
Jon on IRC/Wood Backside Corner. 7 pts.
Grant on IRC/Wood Backside Corner. 7 pts.
Ard on IRC/Wood Stairwell. 6 pts. (p) Grant.
Grant on what was supposed to be the tiebreaker. Forestry Crimp. 10 pts.
Tim on Forestry Crimp. 10 pts.
Todd on Forestry Chimney Traverse (New to guidebook). 6 pts.
James coming quite close on the other tiebreaker. Belkin North Drainage.

Great night! Thanks for organizing it again. The dentistry cracks were interesting, I think I might go back to them soon to train for crack climbing/antenna brandishing.
