Taking the old Movies with buildering scenes thread and updating it, how about YouTube videos of great (or not so great) Hollywood climbing moments?

Kicking things off with Star Trek 5:

It pains me to post this one, but the show must go on.

PS: My new most favorite phrase for 2009: "We've got amateurs at 12 o clock, check your safety!"

An obvious choice. Interesting note at 2:38: "Based on a premise by John Long". For those climber types out there, yes this is the same crazy-ass-Yosemite-climbing-legend John Long who now writes for Rock&Ice. If you come by a copy of Long on Adventure pick it up, you won't be disappointed.

For Your Eyes Only. That massive whipper is quite the stunt. God bless the pre-CG days where stunt men had to actually work for their pay.

Amazing how dated bits of Cliffhanger look! jeez. MI would have been ace were it not for that ridiculous jump and slide. never mind.

Great find with the Bond sequence. had forgotten all about that. Laughing out loud

Found this Re: Tom Cruise in MI2: http://www.ukclimbing.com/articles/page.php?id=18
Rather interesting.

"The climbing was choreographed by the film's stunt coordinator, Brian Smrz, who is arguably the best in the business. However, the choreography was inclusive of several elements that [film director] John Woo had felt were essential. The crucifix position is, I am told, in every John Woo film. I can't say if that is actually true but it was important to John. The leap sideways was also important."

I know for the crucifix thing that Tom is holding onto big ol' plastic climbing holds bolted to the face, which were later CG'd out. There was a pic of this in a climbing mag once, but I can't seem to find it on the 'nets.

William Shatner waxing poetic about his Star Trek climbing scene and climbing in general.

Nice one. So the name of this movie is Adler? I can't find any info on it. The quality is too low to tell if they are really soloing that last part. I'm thinking they're tied in short? So many questions!
