Basic idea really. Post a song or artist that you're enjoying at the moment so that others can also enjoy them!

I'll kick off with:
CL Smooth - I can't help it (Shin-ski's Can't Stop Me Remix)
http://youtube.com/watch?v=cdpCO7R989w

Absolutely love it. There's so much cool jazzy stuff coming out of Japan. Also look for: Nujabes and Nomak.

So lets have some suggestions!

Like the thread. Nice work. Smiling

'Cymbal Rush' by Thom Yorke, as remixed by The Field:

Shame that clip is only 1:15. Sad Think it's even better if you know the original quite well:

No one else is pitching in but I'll carry on regardless in the hope that someone else gets involved:

La Ritournelle, Sebastien Tellier

Not the cheeriest, to say the least...

Nice - video for that was awesome. Also the Field song you posted was pretty cool.

My contribution for now (when is the legend of crate digging going to grace this thread?) is Quantic (a.k.a. Quantic Soul Orchestra)
Continuing the downbeat theme:

Cool. Not that I don't like the thread...it's a killer idea. I just kinda want to save up my music finds for a new music heavy La Villa Radio I'm planning. Plus I've got the "player" feature, which admittedly I don't update enough Sad

Holy crap. 2 people in the forum at once? Posted 10 seconds apart?? Legend of crate digging??? My life is complete.

That's rubbish, ard. Get involved. Your music collection is plenty big enough. Plus I'm sure there are some tunes that you like that you wouldn't necessarily play on LVR.

I give you Boards of Canada, 'An Eagle In Your Mind':

Oh yeah, nice one Phil. Enjoyed them both. Smiling

OK, my contribution, back when people used to get excited by records:

More of a music DVD than a song, but hey...I'll try harder next time.

OK, here's one. Was listening to this track last night on my motorbike coming home from work. Cold crisp air, city lights,...this song made me drive about 120 kph in a 50 zone.

Kings of Leon - Sex On Fire: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHhhcKxflMY

Gauging from the 7.6 million views of this vid I'm guessing this song isn't news to anyone (Honestly, I'm super sheltered from commercial radio, tv, etc).

Ok, coming in your ears this time is Squarepusher. 'Tetra-Sync' from the album Ultravisitor. It may or may not be live, depending on which articles you read. Either way, that's him playing bass guitar. Awesome.

The root down one wouldn't load for me Sad The kings are pretty big over here. I happen to love their music, I've yet to get their new album though (Yeah I'm lazy).

That guy must be actually ridiculously awesome to play like that... On the subject of awesome guitarists, I present Andy McKee:

Four Tet have a new mini album out. The first track, Ringer, is also the title track and this is the best I can do via youshmoob:

I present to you the band Snowden (named after the character in Heller's 'Catch 22', not the mountain in Wales):

I'd post my favourite song which is called 'Between the Rent and Me' but there only seems to be live versions and they're all shit.

I strongly recommend downloading this song and putting it on your mp3 player, turning it up load and going for a walk. For me it seems to create a strange sense of detachment in a similar way that sleep deprivation makes the world suddenly seem a long way away.

If you can handle 'Vordhosbn', step up to '54 Cymru Beats':

I don't care if no one else is playing this game. I will educate the world, one song at a time.

I'm still here! That cymru beats is crazy. I'm not sure if I like it or not.

Nieve and Cook - I Feel Free

Evidence - The Far Left

Ghost - Basic Instinct

Nice work guys. I must admit I was going through a bit of a music lull there, but am happily inspired once again.

Here's my pick:

Here's the backstory (oh there's always a backstory):

Back in my funk and jazz phase, I was digging through some guy's HUGE personal collection of records. It filled an entire warehouse. My buddy Morgan turned me on to the spot, and was digging with me. He'd already been through about 90% of the collection, and pulled all the gems. So naturally I jumped in to the section he hadn't been through yet. (Digging is cut-throat FYI.)

I pulled a bit, I can't even remember what. Morgan flipped through my section a few hours later and pulled out "McDonald and Giles". He tells me, "you flipped past this?!" "You really don't know your psych stuff do you?" To be perfectly honest I didn't. At that point I only knew hip hop and the music it was based upon.

Morgan already had the record and insisted I buy this copy. So, turns out, it quickly became my favorite record of ALL TIME -- the record I compare all others to, the record I go into shops asking, "do you have anything similar to McDonald and Giles?" Sadly, the answer is always either "Huh? Who?" or "Nope, sorry, there's nothing quite like that record".

Here's a free mix by DJ Ferrari. Yeah, yeah, crap name for a DJ, but this dude has got one of the best ears out there.
It's a 2 hour rare soul and funk 45 set:

http://www.djferrari.com/

Yo, Kiell...is the Northern Soul scene still alive and well over there? I must say, picturing white Brit kids dancing to US funk rarities long after the rest of the world stopped giving a crap really brings a smile to my face.

Cheers ard, and welcome to the party. And thanks for the djferrari link - passed it on to a mate of mine and she loves it.

I have no idea whatsover about the northern soul scene! A quick google seems to suggest that it's alive and kicking but I only tend to go clubbing once every couple of months and that usually involves a four/four beat and dancing manically until 6am, if you know what I mean.

My thoughts for the day:

Great link there ard, loved it! There's some excellent stuff surfacing in this thread. Good effort!

Recently tried to purchase a copy of this record off of eBay. I bid $100, but the reserve still wasn't met. F*** that guy, right? Well, looked back a couple days later, and the highest bid was $600. It sold for $710!

Even finding a digital copy of this is rare. CDs go for $125! Someone (bless their heart) recently posted mp3s to what.cd. This isn't the best song on the album, but there's not much to pick from on YouTube.

'"We're sorry, this video is no longer available."

Certainly is rare Sticking out tongue

*EDIT*
Oh, so it was lying to me!

Nice song...

i was totally about to start a "music on youtube" thread. so huzzah! is there room on this thread for silly/interesting music on this thread?
ie:

or is this thread strickly for awesomeness?

ie:

muse - Knights of Cydonia

i suppose Ard's lack of paying attention to pop-radio explains there being a top 40 song on lavilla radio. don't get me wrong i am a kings of leon fanatic.

Ps. A delete post function in "edit" would be nice

Lets leave this thread for good music. We've already got another thread going for YouTube memes.

Speaking of Muse, possibly the best cover ever (watch the Seven Pounds movie for full effect):

PS: No can do on the delete post. Problem is, the delete would delete all posts after it. Drupal sucks that way.

'New Slang' by The Shins. It's been in both Scrubs and Garden State, but I love it all the same.

edit: my god, the audio quality is like I'm pissing it into your ears through a sieve. Worth it for the vid, but if you actually want to hear it without the tinny hiss, try this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QD7qIthSdkA
