A mighty fine question, in mighty fine ESL English: if there was an Institute of Buildering, what should the curriculum entail?

Firstly we have to decide how intensive the education is going to be. Is this a Bachelors of Buildering, or a one year certificate? University or tech school? Let's assume the it's the latter, as I can tell you from first hand experience that a four year bachelors program is really just one year of applicable schooling diluted with three parts water.

So we'll leave out the basket weaving courses, although you never know when you might need to whip up a basket to catch a falling baby whilst buildering.

The curriculum:

  • Climbing Technique 101, 3 Credits: mantels, mantels, mantels, and more mantels, focus on speed and efficiency.
  • Knots and Ropes 100, 3 Credits: knots, alternative belay techniques, rope selection, rope protection.
  • Anchors 154, 6 Credits: gear selection, architectural strength analysis, emphasis on alternative forms of protection.
  • Psychology 120, 6 Credits: hazard perception, cop mentality, conflict resolution, fear vs. rationality.
  • Ethics 130, 3 Credits: gear or solo, chalk or none, street shoes or climbing shoes, bright spandex or camouflage, day or night, fight or flight.

I think I'll start enrollment for the ArdArvin Institute of Buildering in the fall. Tuition costs your soul. (Check the monetary value of your soul: www.wewantyoursoul.com)
